The story, step by step

  1. An open page of Walden sits beside an iPhone showing the Notequote" Library. A yellow highlighter marks two passages: “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately…” and “Our life is frittered away by detail.”
  2. The Walden notebook opens in Notequote". Tap + and choose note / quote from photo to open the camera.
  3. The phone is held over the page and takes one photo.
  4. Notequote" reads the photo: Detecting text, Looking for highlights, Looking for underlines. It marks both passages on the photo and makes a note card for each, labelled page 90.
  5. Dragging the end of the second passage adds two more sentences. Swiping the first card makes it a quote.
  6. After tapping done, both passages are in the Walden notebook, each with page p. 90. Walden moves to the top of the Library.
  7. Searching “delib” finds the first passage, “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately…”, and tapping it opens Walden.
  8. The Walden notebook in Notequote" shows both passages.

Questions

What do I need?

An iPhone or iPad with iOS 26 or later, or a Mac with Apple silicon, and a free Notequote" account. You sign in with an email code, Apple or Google, and you must be 16 or older.

Does it always find what I marked?

A colored highlighter works best. Pen underlines may be missed. You can check each passage before saving and adjust its edges or select words yourself.

Which books and languages does it read?

Printed books with horizontal text, in the languages Apple’s text recognition supports on your iPhone. Handwriting and vertical Japanese aren’t supported. The app itself speaks 26 languages at launch, including English, Türkçe and 日本語.

Where is my library kept?

On your iPhone first, and it works offline. Pages are read on your phone, and what you read never goes into analytics. Deleted a notebook by mistake? You have 30 days to bring it back. Export any notebook as a PDF on any plan, and delete your account from inside the app.

What counts as a page scan?

A page counts when you save something from it. Retakes, cancellations and failed scans don’t count. Several passages from one page count once.

When can I get it?

Notequote" is coming to the App Store in December 2026. The invited TestFlight beta starts on 1 November. Tick the box when you join the waitlist if you’d like to be considered.
